BIO


Justin Torzala (b. 2002) is a composer, designer, and pianist based in Chicago, Illinois and originally from Appleton, Wisconsin. 

Justin is currently completing his undergraduate degree in composition at the DePaul University School of Music. Justin has written for various instrumentations but has an extensive collection of assorted vocal works and is an internationally recognized award-winning choral composer. His music has been performed by The Choral Project (San Jose, CA), Vancouver Chamber Choir (Vancouver, BC), ~Nois Saxophone Quartet (Chicago, IL), Pyrenean String Quartet (Chicago, IL), DePaul University Concert Choir (Chicago, IL), Matt Ingalls and Kyle Bruckmann of sfSound, and various student performers. Additionally, Justin’s short musical theater work, Two Faces, 2024 finalist for The American Prize in Composition, was produced and performed in 2023 at the Athenaeum Center for Thought & Culture (Chicago, IL). As a songwriter, Justin most recently participated in the 2023 Summer Songwriters Workshop at New York University in New York City.

Justin is also pursuing an undergraduate degree in user experience design at the Jarvis College of Computing and Digital Media. His design work is quite diverse, all of which amass into book design, illustration, poster design, typography, mobile and web design, wireframing, prototyping, user research and more.
